2014 Sale Catalog

2014 Sale Bill

Sale Date April 4, 2014

Dethlefs Angus Ranch was founded in 1965 when we, Ken "Dutch" and Marian Dethlefs, moved our family to a new home south of Poole, NE. We brought along our registered Angus cattle herd that we had started in 1954 with the purchase of a heifer to use as a 4-H project.  The cattle were registered as Carl Dethlefs and Sons. With the guidance of my father, Carl, we continued to add to our herd.  With our own children so involved with the care and handling of our cattle, it was decided to change the registered name to Dethlefs Angus Ranch, which has a lifetime membership. Our six children and their families are still "hired hands" when it comes to branding, clipping, sale day and anytime when working cattle. This sure makes raising registered Angus an enjoyable way of life.

We have been production testing and using AI in our herd for over forty years. In the last fifteen years we have successfully implemented an embryo transfer program from our selected donor cows.

For our 2006 calf crop we used AI sires such as Traveler 004, Forefront, Freedom, SPC Design, Lead On, In Focus and Danny Boy. Our herd bull battery includes Sons of Precision E161 and BR Midland both out of a Traveler 6807 dam and SPC Design and Future Direction Sons out of a Rita - Paramount Ambush dam.

Our goal is forever trying to improve on quality to satisfy the changing needs of our customers. We hold an annual production sale each spring. The 2006 sale makes it our 38th annual. It will be held as a joint production sale with Treffer Angus of Broken Bow Ne. which is a sister and brother in law to us. The sale will be held March 9, 2006 at the Loup City Sale Barn. This years sale features 70 yearling and 10 older bulls. The yearling bulls have been developed on a growing ration at Bruce Treffers since November and most of them will be weighing 1300 to1400 pounds at sale time. We feel this is the thickest most uniform set of bulls we have ever raised.
